I’m heading into 2015 with many goals in mind, the first being to try as many new Rums as possible. I can’t think of a better way to start this new year off then with a bottle of Ron Zacapa 23 year old Solera Rum.
This internationally award winning Guatemalan rum is made using virgin sugar cane honey instead of molasses.
Virgin sugar cane honey is derived from the first press of sugar cane that is then reduced down to a thicker consistency. A rum made from a sugar cane honey is sweeter and smoother.
The nose picks up sweet aromas of caramel, vanilla and cocoa. A complex taste, robust with hints of ginger, orange and cinnamon with a long smooth finish. Zacapa Centario is aged using the solera method to produce a very dark, mahogany mixed with copper hues.
Rated 97 points from the Beverage Tasting Institute.
And let me tell you, on a chilly New Year’s Eve night, this rum was a perfect way to bring some worth to the first moments of the new year.
Prices may vary but expect to find this in the range of $40 to $60 depending on location.
